چکیده

Background Allergy to tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) has been reported to occur in 3-16% of food allergic subjects. Tomato allergy is frequently manifested as OAS, urticaria and gastrointestinal symptoms. So far, three tomato allergens, Lyc e 1 (profilin), Lyc e 2 (invertase) and Lyc e 3 (nsLTP) are listed in the official IUIS allergen database. Although tomato allergy is frequently associated with birch pollen allergy in Central Europe, a cross-reactive Bet v 1 homologous allergen has not yet been described in tomato fruits. The objective of the present study was the cDNA cloning, recombinant expression and immunological characterization of Bet v 1 homologous PR10-proteins from tomato fruits.

Oral Allergy Syndrome – What ’ S New ?

Oral allergy syndrome/pollen-food syndrome (OAS/ PFS) affects up to 70% of patients with birch-pollen allergy. Prevalence is likely to continue to increase as the prevalence of inhalant allergies rises. Homologous proteins in fruits, vegetables, and pollens of grasses, trees and weeds are responsible for PFS. Component-resolved diagnosis (CRD) with recombinant allergens may assist with the diag...

Cross-reactivity of pollen and food allergens: soybean Gly m 4 is a member of the Bet v 1 superfamily and closely resembles yellow lupine proteins

In many cases, patients allergic to birch pollen also show allergic reactions after ingestion of certain fruits or vegetables. This observation is explained at the molecular level by cross-reactivity of IgE antibodies induced by sensitization to the major birch pollen allergen Bet v 1 with homologous food allergens. As IgE antibodies recognize conformational epitopes, a precise structural chara...

Occupational rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma caused by chicory and oral allergy syndrome associated with bet v 1-related protein.

We report the case of a patient working in a factory producing inulin from chicory who developed rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma to the dust of dry chicory roots and oral allergy syndrome to raw fruits and vegetables. Nonspecific bronchial hyperresponsiveness was diagnosed. A provocation test with dry chicory induced acute rhinoconjunctivitis and an immediate asthmatic response with no further c...

Identification and implication of an allergenic PR-10 protein from walnut in birch pollen associated walnut allergy.

SCOPE English walnut (Juglans regia) belongs to the most important allergenic tree nuts. Co-sensitization with birch (Betula verrucosa) pollen has been reported. We aimed to identify a walnut allergen homologous to the major birch pollen allergen Bet v 1. METHODS AND RESULTS A cDNA encoding a Bet v 1-homologous allergen (Jug r 5) in walnut kernels was cloned by RT-PCR. Jug r 5 was expressed i...

Enlarging the Toolbox for Allergen Epitope Definition with an Allergen-Type Model Protein

BACKGROUND Birch pollen-allergic subjects produce polyclonal cross-reactive IgE antibodies that mediate pollen-associated food allergies. The major allergen Bet v 1 and its homologs in plant foods bind IgE in their native protein conformation. Information on location, number and clinical relevance of IgE epitopes is limited. We addressed the use of an allergen-related protein model to identify ...
